Terms of Use
These terms are an agreement between you and Tyler Kershaw, the individual developer of Junk Drawer (“we”, “us”). They cover the Junk Drawer app and the service behind it. Please read them. When you create an account or tap to accept these terms in the app, you agree to them and to our Privacy Policy.
The short version
- You must be at least 13 to use Junk Drawer.
- What you share stays yours. You let us store and process it (including with AI services) so the app works.
- We have zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users. Break the community rules and we remove the content and ban the account.
- You can report or block anyone. We review reports within 24 hours.
- The app works out what things are automatically, and it can be wrong.
1. The service
Junk Drawer lets you share links, text, screenshots, and map pins from other apps. It works out what each one is (a movie, show, book, article, restaurant, place, event, game, product, or recipe) and files it in your private Drawer. You can put saves on the Fridge, a feed that only your accepted friends can see, with an optional note and rating.
To work out what you shared, we read the shared page and use third-party AI services and catalogues, as the Privacy Policy explains. You need to agree to this processing before your shares are processed.
Junk Drawer is currently free. If we ever add paid features, we’ll tell you before charging for anything. We may change, add, or remove features over time.
2. Your account
- Age. You must be at least 13, or older if the law where you live requires it.
- One person, one account. Give accurate information. Don’t share your account or sign in as someone else.
- Keep it secure. You’re responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us right away if you think someone else has used it.
- Handles. Your @handle and display name are visible to other users. They must follow the community rules. Don’t pick one that impersonates someone or that misleads people about who you are. We may take back a handle that breaks these terms.
- Banned users may not create a new account.
3. Your content
“Your content” means what you share to Junk Drawer and what you add to it: links, text, screenshot text, contact cards, notes, ratings, names you type, your handle, your display name, and reports.
- You keep ownership. We don’t claim ownership of your content.
- You give us permission to use it to run Junk Drawer. You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, copy, process, and display your content, only to provide and improve the service. This includes sending it to the service providers listed in the Privacy Policy (including AI models) to classify and moderate it, and showing your Fridge posts to the friends you’ve chosen. This license ends when you delete the content or your account, except for backup copies kept for a limited time and anything we need to keep to enforce these terms or follow the law.
- You’re responsible for it. Only share content you have the right to share. Content from other apps and websites still belongs to its owners and is subject to their terms.
- Be careful with personal information. Don’t share other people’s private information, such as a person’s contact card or a screenshot of a private conversation, without their permission.
4. Community rules
We have zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users. These rules apply to everything other people can see: Fridge posts and notes, titles, handles, and display names. Don’t post, share, or do any of the following:
- Sexual content: nudity, pornography, or sexually explicit material.
- Anything that sexualizes minors. We report it to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children and to law enforcement.
- Hate: attacks, slurs, or demeaning content based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, caste, sex, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, serious illness, or age.
- Harassment and bullying: insulting, threatening, intimidating, stalking, or shaming anyone, or encouraging others to do so.
- Violence: threats, glorifying violence or violent groups, or graphic violence or gore.
- Self-harm: promoting or encouraging suicide, self-injury, or eating disorders.
- Illegal activity: selling or promoting illegal drugs, weapons, or other illegal goods or services, or content that breaks the law.
- Spam and scams: repetitive or unwanted posts, misleading links, phishing, or fraud.
- Impersonation: pretending to be another person, brand, or organization.
- Private information: sharing someone else’s private information (such as their address, phone number, or private messages) without their permission.
- Infringement: content that violates someone else’s copyright, trademark, privacy, or other rights.
- Malicious content: links to malware or anything designed to harm devices or accounts.
Also don’t misuse the service. That means: don’t try to get around moderation, blocks, or bans. Don’t use bots or automated accounts. Don’t scrape, overload, or attack the service. Don’t reverse-engineer the app, except where the law allows it.
5. Moderation, reporting, and blocking
- Automatic filter. Before anything goes on the Fridge, an automated moderation model checks notes and any titles that didn’t come from a catalogue. Handles and display names are checked the same way. If the text is flagged, it isn’t posted. If the check can’t run, nothing goes up until it can.
- Report. You can report any Fridge post or any person in the app. Choose a reason (offensive, harassment, sexual, spam, or other) and add a note if you like. A post you report disappears from your Fridge right away. A post reported by more than one person is hidden from everyone until we review it. You can also report by emailing tylerakershaw1@gmail.com.
- Block. You can block anyone. Blocking removes any friendship or friend request between you. Neither of you will see the other’s posts or be able to find or add the other. We don’t tell people they’ve been blocked.
- Review within 24 hours. We review reports within 24 hours.
- Removal and bans. If content breaks these terms, we remove it. We ban the user who posted it, and users who abuse others. Because we have zero tolerance, one violation can be enough for a ban. We may remove content or suspend or ban an account without notice.
- Appeals. If you think we got it wrong, email us and we’ll take another look.
Other users’ content is theirs, not ours. We don’t review everything before it’s posted, other than the automatic filter, and we’re not responsible for what other users post. We act on reports as described above.
6. Third-party content and links
Titles, details, and other information about the things you save come from third parties. These include The Movie Database (TMDB), Open Library, Wikidata, Apple Maps, and the websites and apps you share from. We don’t own or control that content, we don’t endorse it, and it may be incomplete or out of date. Links to other websites and apps are governed by their own terms and privacy policies.
This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.
Place information comes from Apple Maps.
7. Automatic classification can be wrong
Junk Drawer uses AI and catalogue lookups to work out what you shared. It can pick the wrong item, the wrong type, or miss something. Check anything important yourself, like a restaurant’s address and hours, an event’s date, or a recipe’s ingredients if you have allergies.
8. Apple and the App Store
If you got Junk Drawer from Apple’s App Store, your license to use the app is governed by Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the “Standard EULA”). These terms supplement the Standard EULA. If they conflict on your license to use the app, the Standard EULA wins. You also acknowledge that:
- These terms are between you and us, not Apple. We, not Apple, are solely responsible for Junk Drawer and its content.
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for Junk Drawer.
- If the app fails to meet any warranty that applies, you can notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price, if any. Junk Drawer is free, so there is none. To the extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation for the app.
- Apple is not responsible for any claims relating to the app or your use of it. That includes product liability claims, claims that the app fails to meet a legal or regulatory requirement, and claims under consumer protection, privacy, or similar laws.
- If anyone claims the app or your use of it infringes their intellectual property, we, not Apple, are responsible for investigating and handling that claim.
- You confirm that you aren’t located in a country subject to a US government embargo or designated as a “terrorist supporting” country. You also confirm that you aren’t on any US government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- You must follow any third-party terms that apply when you use the app, such as your mobile carrier’s terms.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms. Once you accept them, Apple has the right to enforce them against you.
9. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect, who receives it, and how to delete it.
10. Ending your use
- You can stop using Junk Drawer at any time and delete your account in the app. See how to delete your account.
- We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms, if the law requires it, or to protect other users. We may also shut down the service. If we do, we’ll give reasonable notice where we can.
- Sections 3 (the parts about responsibility), 6, 7, and 11 to 14 continue to apply after your access ends.
11. Disclaimers
Junk Drawer is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no warranties, express or implied. That includes warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We don’t promise the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure. We also don’t promise that classifications, catalogue information, or other users’ content will be accurate.
12. Limits on liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we won’t be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages. That includes lost data, lost profits, and lost goodwill. We also won’t be liable for anything other users or third parties do. Our total liability for any claim relating to Junk Drawer is limited to the greater of US$50 or the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Some places don’t allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can’t be limited by law.
13. Your responsibility to us
To the extent the law allows, you agree to cover our reasonable losses and costs from third-party claims caused by your content or by your breach of these terms.
14. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be decided by the state or federal courts located in the State of New York, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring a claim in your local courts. Before bringing a claim, please email us so we can try to sort it out.
15. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We’ll post the new version here with a new effective date. If a change is significant, we’ll tell you in the app before it takes effect. If you keep using Junk Drawer after that, you accept the new terms. If you don’t agree, you can delete your account.
16. General
- These terms, the Privacy Policy, and (for App Store users) Apple’s Standard EULA are the whole agreement between you and us about Junk Drawer.
- If part of these terms can’t be enforced, the rest still applies.
- If we don’t enforce a term right away, we haven’t given up the right to enforce it later.
- You can’t transfer these terms to someone else. We may transfer them if Junk Drawer changes hands.
